The Urbana Board of Education has approved the appointment of Megan Kirby as the next Principal of Thomas Paine Elementary, effective July 23, 2025.
Kirby is currently an Associate Principal at Jefferson Middle School. She has also served as an assistant principal at the elementary level, where she worked closely with teachers, students, and families to support academic success and build a positive school culture. Before becoming an administrator, Kirby served as a special education teacher for nine years.
Kirby attended Thomas Paine as an elementary student and is a 2008 graduate of Urbana High School.
Kirby holds a Master’s degree in Educational Organization and Leadership and a Director of Special Education Endorsement.
The Urbana School District welcomes Kirby back home to Urbana.
