BOARD OF EDUCATION
The Urbana School District #116 Board of Education is made up of seven elected members. If you wish to contact the entire school board via email, send an email to board@usd116.org, a group email address that includes all seven current board members and the superintendent, and all board members will receive the message.
USD116 BOE Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., unless otherwise noted. There are no meetings in July. Meetings are held in the Board Room at Tiger Academy, 303 East Fairlawn Dr., Urbana, unless otherwise indicated on the agenda.
Agenda materials should be to the Superintendent’s office no later than one week prior to the meeting. Agendas and documentation are published at least 48 hours prior to the start of the corresponding BOE meeting. Minutes are posted after the board has approved them. The study sessions and business meetings are broadcast live on the USD116 Youtube Channel.

USD116 BOARD COMMITTEES
Policy 2:150 Committees
The Board of Education may establish committees to assist with the Board’s governance function and, in some situations, to comply with State law requirements. These committees are known as Board committees and report directly to the Board. Depending on the committee’s purpose, committee members may include both Board members and non-Board members. The Board President makes all Board Committee appointments unless specifically stated otherwise. Board committee meetings shall comply with the Open Meetings Act. A Board committee may not take final action on behalf of the Board – it may only make recommendations to the Board.
In an effort to continue our commitment to communication, the Board of Education and Urbana Education Association leadership participate in roundtable discussions during the year.
Meets as needed during negotiation years or special memorandums as needed. The purpose of this committee is to negotiate a new contractual agreement between the UEA and the Board of Education. Membership includes teachers, administrators, UniServe Director, Board attorneys, teachers, and teacher assistants.
The Board and UEA, as part of our Collective Bargaining Agreement, agree to work together to align, assess, and adapt the procedures for student discipline aligned with ILSC 10-20.14.
A Board Committee that meets on an as-needed basis (often combined with Campus Land Use). This committee reviews property acquisitions before submitting recommendations to the entire board.
Meets as needed and directed by the Board per BOE Policy 4:150. The committee will then meet and bring a recommendation to the board for approval.
