Urbana School District is celebrating National African American School Involvement Day (NAAPID) on Monday, February 9, 2026. Each school will host a variety of events and activities for families, including classroom visits, student performances and guest readers/presenters. NAAPID is an opportunity for families to connect with schools and celebrate the importance of family involvement in education.
Below is an overview of events at each school. Families are encouraged to read their school newsletter for more information or contact their school for additional details or with questions.
Urbana Early Childhood School
- Family Photo Booth
- Families invited to spend time in the classroom
King School
- 8:45-9:30 a.m. Breakfast with families
- 9:30-9:45 a.m. Walking museum with student artwork
Dr. Williams
- 8:30 a.m. Breakfast
- 9-10 a.m. Games, photo booth, art activities
- Families may attend specials with their student
- Afternoon story hour in classrooms with guest readers
Leal
- 8-8:30 a.m. Light breakfast in the library with Urbana Mayor Williams
- 8:30-9:30 a.m. Morning class visit session*
- 1-2 p.m. Afternoon class visit session*
* Parents may attend class with their student for one or both sessions
Thomas Paine
- 8 a.m. Light breakfast for families
- 8:30-10:30 a.m. Families are invited to listen to a story with their students; read by a special guest
- Door Decorations: Visitors will vote on the best door
Yankee Ridge Multilingual
- 8:30-10 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m. Light refreshments and activity stations in the multipurpose room (May attend one or both)
- Guest readers and presenters throughout the day: check with teacher
Urbana Sixth Grade Center
Paint-n-Chew: The school will provide families a canvas and paint to create artwork while they eat lunch with their student.
- Families should bring their lunch and dessert will be provided
- Lunch A: 11:50 a.m.-12:27 p.m. | Lunch B: 12:29-1:05 p.m.
Urbana Middle School
UMS NAAPID Celebration Luncheon
- 7th Grade Lunch: 11:15 a.m. to 12:19 p.m.
- 8th Grade Lunch: 12:53-1:57 p.m.
Parent Ed Cafe between lunch periods from 12-12:45 p.m.
- Sessions will be offered on Skyward, AVID, preparing for college and career readiness, and exploring academic rigor
Urbana High School
Soul Food Dinner for all UHS families on February 9 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Urbana High School Commons. Please rsvp to the high school if you plan to attend.
