Urbana School District announces logo winner

On Monday, August 19, Urbana School District 116 (#116) revealed logo #1 as the winner of The District’s community-wide logo voting campaign during the 2019 Opening Day Celebration.

On July 26, The District used its social media platforms to announce that it would be undergoing branding improvements, beginning with its logo. The District asked Urbana students, parents, alumni and community members to vote for their favorite logo out of three choices previously discussed among USD116 administration during the month of July.

Though the logo has officially been chosen after hundreds of votes, The District plans to get students more involved in editing the winning logo throughout the 2019-2020 school year. USD116 administrators plan to meet with students for input before the logo is used as the permanent image to represent The District.

“We knew it was important to include the Urbana community during this process, and we want to continue this engagement throughout the school year,” said USD116 Superintendent Jennifer Ivory-Tatum. “Students know what makes Urbana special, so we want them to be included in the making the finishing touches to our logo. One day, they will be able to look at the logo and be proud because they were a major part of the process.”

USD116 administration included Urbana community voices during the change to meet its new initiative of increasing community engagement and communication. The announcement came alongside The District’s reveal of its “Urbana Better Together” campaign, which highlights the importance of The District working with Urbana community partners and organizations to increase student success and make the City of Urbana stronger.

USD116 is planning “Urbana Better Together” events and workshops to further its community engagement initiatives as the school year kicks off. The District also announced the conception of its Communication and Marketing Committee on Tuesday, August 6. USD116 administrators plan to use the committee to improve communication between parents and The District by discussing past communication issues and parent communication needs.
