Construction Complete: Urbana School District to hold pair of ribbon cuttings

The public is invited to a pair of ribbon cuttings at the Urbana School District on Tuesday, August 15.

A 4 p.m. a ribbon cutting will celebrate the completion of the Tiger Band Room Expansion and Renovation project. The ribbon cutting will take place outside, near the track. Please enter the area through the athletic complex.

USD#116 prides itself in providing quality music education to all students regardless of income or ability. Our nationally award-winning band program has grown to include two concert bands, a marching band with a color guard, a big band-style jazz ensemble, a brass choir, a woodwind choir, and a percussion ensemble.

The much needed expansion includes more space for band classes and the Tiger Marching Band, an interior ramp with doors to the football field, new acoustical tiles to improve the overall sound, and increased storage space.

We thank the Urbana Bands Room to Grow Committee, the CU Schools Foundation donors, and those who financially supported the Urbana Band Program. This project would not have been possible without this community support for our students.

At 5 p.m. the District will celebrate the newly renovated Thomas Paine Elementary School with a ribbon cutting.

The ribbon cutting will kick off Back-To-School Night. Please come tour the building and see the updated spaces, including the new gym, library expansion, and classrooms.

We want to give a special thank you to those who made generous donations toward the playground, the Lui family in honor of Kay Grabow, and the Thomas Paine PTA.

We hope to celebrate with you on August 15.
