Urbana School District plans to be open for school Friday, August 25, with the following precautions.
We are monitoring all of our schools’ air conditioner units and chillers. Our only area of concern is Urbana Middle School. The air conditioner unit there is currently working and sufficiently cooling the building. However, if that changes tomorrow after school has started, we will contact UMS families directly and problem-solve a dismissal plan as early in the day as possible.
We will continue to monitor the heat index and inside temperature of our yellow buses before the dismissal drop-off time so that precautionary measures are in place. We will continue to provide water and ways to keep our yellow bus riders and drivers cool during the ride home. If your student walks home or rides a yellow bus, we encourage you to pick them up from school tomorrow if possible. For our families with younger students (i.e., UECS and Elementary), please call the school’s main office to inform them of any transportation changes.
We encourage all families to send a refillable water bottle with your student(s) to use throughout the day to stay hydrated.
The District will update you as needed if anything in our current plan for school tomorrow changes during the evening hours or early morning.
