New Leaders of King Elementary Approved by Board of Education
The Urbana Board of Education approved the appointment of Ms. Michelle Turner as the next Principal of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School and Mr. Antione King as the next Assistant Principal.
Ms. Turner is the current Assistant Principal at King Elementary. She began her career as the Title I/Reading Recovery Teacher at Leal and King Elementary Schools in Urbana. Since then, she has been a classroom teacher for various grades at King Elementary and a Dean of Students in Unit 4 School District.
Ms. Turner has a long history at King and we are excited to have her at the helm. Ms. Turner attended King Elementary as a student and her two children also attended King School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and an advanced degree, all from the University of Illinois.
Mr. Antione King was selected to take over as Assistant Principal at King Elementary. Mr. King is an Urbana High School alum and most recently served as an Instructional Coach for middle school teachers in Philadelphia. He has also previously taught various grades and content levels from Kindergarten through eighth grade.
Mr. King holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in Education from Concordia University.
Both will begin their new roles July 26.
