UHS Students Among National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Two Urbana School District #116 students are among the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors

Urbana High School Students Alistair Forsyth and Adina  Gerstenecker have been named semifinalists by the scholarship program.

These high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for more than 7,000 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. This includes submitting a detailed scholarship application, with information about the their academic record, participation in school and  community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2023 will be announced beginning in April 2023 and concluding in July. To learn more about the National Merit Scholarship Program, visit www.nationalmerit.org.
