UHS Students Fill the Hallways with Color

After six months of work, Urbana High School Students are unveiling a new mural at the high school on March 4 from 5-6 p.m. (Enter Door 1).

The design was created by a group of USD #116 students who participated in a week-long workshop hosted at The Urbana Free Library in the summer of 2022. Their inspiration was Urbana High School’s motto, “Gladly would we learn, and gladly teach.” The mural is a representation of what that motto means to the students. There are motifs such as tigers and butterflies along a winding path throughout the mural, which connects to the first half of the mural project installed in Urbana Middle School.

This mural was painted between January-July of 2023 and installed at the high school early 2024. It was a collaborative project between the Teen Art Council, supported by the Champaign-Urbana Community Fab Lab, Teen Open Lab at The Urbana Free Library, Teens In Action, Dream Girls Academy, Urbana Freedom Schools, and the UHS Art club.
