Become a Mentor, Change a Life
The C-U 1 to 1 Mentoring Program is in need of more mentors. We are currently recruiting mentors for students in grades 3-7.
The C-U 1 to 1 Mentor Program is a school-based program. Mentoring occurs on school grounds, during the school day, during the school year. It is a relationship-building (not tutoring) program.
- Mentors dedicate one hour per week and commit for one year.
- Students who stay in the program through high school graduation receive a college scholarship.
- There are four steps to become a mentor:
- 1. application
- 2. interview
- 3. one two-hour training
- 4. background check with fingerprinting
Upcoming training dates are:
- September 21st (6:30-8:30 p.m. at UMS)
- October 7th (6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Mellon Building in Champaign)
- October 13th (11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Mellon Building in Champaign)
Mentors are meeting with their mentees in-person this year, staying safe by practicing physical distancing and wearing masks.
