Become a Mentor, Change a Life

The C-U 1 to 1 Mentoring Program is in need of more mentors. We are currently recruiting mentors for students in grades 3-7.

The C-U 1 to 1 Mentor Program is a school-based program.  Mentoring occurs on school grounds, during the school day, during the school year.  It is a relationship-building (not tutoring) program.

  • Mentors dedicate one hour per week and commit for one year.
  • Students who stay in the program through high school graduation receive a college scholarship.
  • There are four steps to become a mentor:
    • 1. application
    • 2. interview
    • 3. one two-hour training
    • 4. background check with fingerprinting

Upcoming training dates are:

    • September 21st (6:30-8:30 p.m. at UMS)
    • October 7th (6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Mellon Building in Champaign)
    • October 13th (11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Mellon Building in Champaign)

Mentors are meeting with their mentees in-person this year, staying safe by practicing physical distancing and wearing masks.

If you are able to make a one-year commitment to a young person in our community, and you would like more information about the application process to become a mentor contact:
