Urbana Pair Promoted to Principal of Urbana Middle School and Administrator of Urbana 6th Grade Center

The Urbana Board of Education approved the appointments of Imani Carr as the first Urbana 6th Grade Center Administrator and Melissa Kearns as the next Principal of Urbana Middle School.

Carr is currently an Assistant Principal at Urbana Middle School. She began her career in Urbana School District as a 5th Grade teacher at Dr. Williams Elementary. She later served as a middle school English Language Arts teacher, Dean and Assistant Principal. Carr serves on several District committees and is actively involved with her community. Carr has been a board member for First String, Inc. for over 18 years and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Champaign-Urbana Alumnae Chapter. Carr is a proud parent of Urbana High School students, where she is an active PTA member

Carr holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English and a Master’s of Education in Educational Administration. 

Kearns is currently an Assistant Principal at Urbana High School. She is an Urbana High School graduate and attended Urbana Schools K-12.  Kearns previously served as an Assistant Principal at Jefferson Middle School where she was involved in school improvement and equity initiatives. Prior to that, Kearns worked as an Instructional Coach, Magnet Site Coordinator, elementary teacher and middle school science teacher. 

Kearns holds two Master’s Degrees, one in Curriculum and Instruction and another in Educational Leadership with a principal endorsement. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
