The Urbana School District is organizing a special Facilities Planning Committee to advise the Board of Education on the future of Wiley School.
USD116 is inviting anyone who is interested in serving on the committee to fill out the following interest form: Facilities Planning Committee Interest Form
To examine the future programming for Wiley School, the committee will review the comprehensive needs of all USD116 buildings and programs. As part of the comprehensive examination to best meet the needs of the entire district, the committee will consider, but not be limited to, the following:
Reopening Wiley Elementary as a neighborhood elementary school
Reopening Wiley as a newly themed elementary with a specific focus (e.g., International Baccalaureate, Balanced Calendar, Magnet School)
Reopening Wiley as a second middle school campus (e.g., a 6th Grade Center, specialized 6, 7, 8 Grade Center)
Reopening Wiley as a whole school Dual Language campus
The committee will be co-chaired and include representatives from each elementary school, UECS, Urbana Middle and High schools (i.e., teachers, support staff, parents, and/or administrators), the Urbana Education Association, District Administrators, and members from the Board of Education. The committee’s meetings will be publicly noticed and held either monthly or bi-weekly, beginning in April 2023. The goal is for the committee to provide its final report to the Board in August 2023.
Current meeting dates are: April 25, May 9, May 31, June 14, and June 21 from 6-7:30 p.m. There may be more summer dates added. Meetings will primarily be on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
While we would like to include everyone interested in participating in the meeting sessions, we recognize that is not practical or possible. However, as the committee makes decisions or needs additional information or input from a larger group of stakeholders, we are committed to reaching out to those who indicated that they would like to participate in any upcoming engagements, as noted in the interest survey.
