Longtime Educator To Fill Vacant Board of Education Seat

The Urbana School District #116 Board of Education will appoint Jennifer Hixson to fill the Sub-District 2 vacancy for the remainder of the term. Hixson will take the Oath of Office during the April 16 Business Meeting. Hixson was the lone applicant for the seat vacated by Ravi Hasanadka.

Hixson retired from USD #116 in 2009, last serving as the Director of the Multicultural Program. Prior to that, she was an ESL/science and social studies teacher at King School. Hixson has also spent time as an adjunct instructor at the University of Illinois, teaching education courses. Since retiring, Hixson has worked as a substitute for Urbana Schools in various roles.

Hixson has been active in Urbana Schools as an educator, parent and community member for decades.  Her appointment runs until April 2025.

Since there was only one applicant for the seat, the candidate forum with the League of Women Voters on April 9 was canceled.
