Dear Urbana Families,
Due to the continued bitterly cold conditions and the cold weather advisory through Monday morning’s arrival times, in addition to the current forecast of -10 wind chills, 25 to 30 mph winds, and blowing snow, Urbana School District is shifting to E-Learning Monday, December 15. There will be no in-person instruction at the school buildings on Monday.
A significant number of students in our district live within 1.5 miles of their school and therefore do not receive district-provided transportation. In extreme temperatures, young children walk to school without hats, gloves, and sometimes proper coats. Many students have extended walks, often 10 to 30 minutes or more, on untreated/unsalted sidewalks and walkways. This decision is being made to ensure the safety of all students and staff, particularly our walkers and bus riders.
SGC, UMS, and UHS evening and after-school extracurricular and sporting events and practices will continue as normal.
PreK through 5th-grade students should work on the E-learning packets sent home earlier this school year, specifically the first lesson. If you cannot locate your student’s packet, you can find E-Learning choice boards on our website: https://usd116.orge-learning/.
Students in grades 6-12 should check Google Classroom for posted information or assignments. (Look for the topic labeled “E-Learning.) Teachers will be available remotely during set office hours for students who need help or have questions. This information will be posted in your student’s Google Classroom by the start of the regular school day.
All students have three days after returning to school to receive written feedback for work completed. Within 3 days after the E-Learning day, the student must turn in completed e-learning work to the teacher for their attendance to count. If work is not turned in, the student will receive an unexcused absence for the E-Learning day.
