All in the Family: Cameron Mammen to join father, uncle & grandfather in the UHS Hall of Fame

2013 Urbana High School graduate Cameron Mammen will enter the Urbana Athletics Hall of Fame on Wednesday, joining a line of family members already bestowed the honor.  Mammen’s grandfather is the the UHS Hall of Fame for his work as a wrestling and football coach. His father and uncle are also in the Tiger Hall of Fame.

Cameron Mammen was a two-sport standout at Urbana, playing football and wrestling. 

In football, he was a 3-time Big 12 Scholar Athlete, a 2-time team MVP and set the all-time school and twin-city passing yard records. As a Senior, he led the Tigers to a Big 12 Conference Championship and the school’s first playoff win. Mammen was voted the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, voted to the News-Gazette All-Area First Team, voted to the IWCOA 5A All-State Team, voted to the Chicago Tribune All-State Football Team, and voted the News-Gazette Football Player of the Year. 

In wrestling, Mammen was a 3-time Big 12 Scholar Athlete, a 3-time team MVP, a 4-time Big-12 All-Conference first-teamer, a 2-time IHSA Regional Champ, a 2-time IHSA Sectional Champ, a 3-time IHSA State Qualifier, a 5th place IHSA State place-winner as a Junior and an undefeated IHSA State Champion as a Senior. During his State Championship run, he set IHSA State Finals records for fastest fall in the championship bracket, fastest tech fall in a championship bracket and most points scored in a Championship bout in his weight and class. 

At the end of his Senior season, Cameron was voted the IWCOA Class 2A Wrestler of the Year, the News Gazette All-Area Wrestler of the Year and the News-Gazette Male High School Athlete of the Year. He was the UHS Junior and Senior Male Athlete of the Year. He finished his high school wrestling career with 113 wins.

After high school, Cameron attended and played football for Malone University and later Millikin University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Fitness and Recreation. He is currently a Physical Education teacher at Robertson Charter School in Decatur and coaches football at Mt. Zion High School.

Mammen’s induction will take place just prior to the Urbana/Rantoul wrestling meet on Wed., Jan. 26, at approximately 5:55 p.m.
