Five People Inducted into Urbana Athletic Hall of Fame
Five people were inducted into the Urbana Athletic Hall of Fame during halftime of the UHS boys soccer match on Tuesday, October 12. This is half of a two-class induction process. The second half will be inducted in January during a basketball game.
The inductees are:
Saul Downie – class of 2014
Downie was a three-year starter for the soccer team during his time at UHS, leading the team as captain his senior year. He was also a 2x Big 12 All-Conference First Team selection and received the team’s most valuable, most dedicated and most aggressive player awards. During Downie’s tenure, the team won three consecutive conference championships. Off the field, Downie served as Senior Class President.
Downie went on to play Division I soccer at Yale University where he earned two Varsity letters. He earned a degree in Economics and works in the field of Finance in Chicago.
Miguel Fierro – class of 2013
Fierro earned three Varsity letters in boys soccer and was the captain of the team his junior and senior year. Among Fierro’s accomplishments, he was named the All Area Soccer Player of the year and team most valuable player by the News Gazette. He was also named a 2x Big 12 All-Conference player.
Fierro went on to play for Olivet Nazarene University, where he earned varsity letters all 4 years and was team captain his junior and senior season. After college, Fierro played one season professionally for the Southern California Seahorses in Los Angeles.
He earned a degree in Business Administration and Marketing and is currently an operations manager for a logistics firm.
Conner Gremer – class of 2014
During his time at UHS, Gremer earned multiple varsity letters in baseball, basketball and football. He was also named Male Athlete of the Year, received the John Gremer Award in Football, was Team MVP in both baseball and basketball, and was a Big 12 Scholar Athlete in basketball, basketball and football.
Gremer went on to play baseball at Parkland and then the University of Central Missouri, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture. He resides in Missouri where he is a Farming and Seed Sales Rep.
Michael Thompson – class of 2014
Thompson earned varsity letters in golf, basketball and baseball and served as co-captain for both the baseball and golf teams during his junior and senior years. He was named a Big 12 Scholar Athlete three times in all three sports. Thompson was also a 2x sectional qualifier in gold among many other awards.
He graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s of Science in Supply Chain Management & Marketing and has continued to compete in intramural sports and golf tournaments.
Nicholas Stillwell – ‘Tiger For Life’ inductee
Stillwell began teaching at UHS in 2001. During his tenure, he has served as a math teacher, Math Department Chair and Assistant Coach for the Varsity Baseball Team. Stillwell has also worked in game operations for many of the athletic programs at UHS. His loyalty, and constant willingness to give his time to support and cheer on our students, athletes and coaches is second to none. Nick embodies the ideals of a ‘Tiger for Life’.
