National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) officials named UHS student Olivia Rosenstein as a semifinalist in its 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program on Wednesday, September 11, 2019.
Rosenstein qualified as one of 16,000 finalists out of 1.6 million high school juniors for her performance on the October 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. According to NMSC, the corporation calculates the sum of Reading, Writing and Language, and Math Test scores to determine 50,000 high scoring participants who qualify for program recognition.
Rosenstein will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered to finalists next spring. After semifinalists who meet academic and other requirements are notified of their advancement as finalists in February, all Merit Scholar awardees will be chosen based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments.
NMSC’s mission is to “recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States.” The corporation accomplishes its mission through scholarship programs that promote a deeper respect for learning, shine a spotlight on academic excellence, and increase sponsorship for outstanding students.
Urbana High School and Urbana School District #116 congratulates Olivia Rosenstein on her outstanding accomplishment and wish her the best of luck as she advances in the National Merit Scholarship competition! #ProudofU116
