NAAPID 2024

Urbana School District #116 schools will host several National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) activities for families on Feb. 12.

National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) is a day for all parents to come to their child’s school, see what their day is like and to support their child’s educational future. Some of the goals of NAAPID are to:
  • Promote parent involvement in their child’s education.
  • Address the achievement gap facing African American students.
  • Promote and provide strategies for all parents and students to take full advantage of the educational process at all levels of the educational system

See below for a list of activities by school. 

Urbana Early Childhood School: Families are invited to join their student’s session for a special presentation.

  • Ms. Cierra, Ms. Mesha, Ms. Krista O., Ms. Jasmine: 9:15-9:45 a.m. and 1:15-1:45 p.m.
  • Ms. Barb, Ms Krysta, Ms. Jule, Ms. Kathy: 10-10:30 a.m. and 2-2:30 p.m.
  • Ms. Londa, Ms. Heather, Ms. Abbie, Ms. Alba: 10:45-11:15 a.m. and 2:45-3:15 p.m.

Dr. King Elementary: 7:45-8:30 a.m. Family breakfast and morning activity in classrooms

Dr. Williams Elementary:

  • 8:30-9:15 a.m. Parent Engagement Workshop (multipurpose room)
  • 9:30-10:30 a.m. Visit classrooms

Yankee Ridge Elementary: Yankee Ridge will host NAAPID “ALL DAY for our Parents to join us throughout the day. 

  • 8:10 – 8:30 a.m. Breakfast
  • Parent Involvement Classroom Activities throughout the day:
    • Each classroom will have engaging activities in which parents can participate with the students.
    • Join fun activities in our Universal Arts and Specials classes
    • Guest Community Readers will visit every class
    • Opportunities to get involved and volunteer
  • Enjoy lunch with your scholar (a special eating area and dessert will be provided) *call the office for the lunch schedule
  • Enjoy a tour of our school with your scholar or one of our student greeters

Urbana Middle School: Visit during your student’s lunch and enjoy a presentation. 

  • 6th Grade: 11:29 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.
  • 7th Grade: 12:19-12:54 p.m.
  • 8th Grade: 1:09-1:44 p.m.

Urbana High School: 8:30-10 a.m. Celebration and Family Engagement Program

Tiger Academy: 11 a.m to 12 p.m. Hot chocolate sip and paint
