COVID-19 vaccine now available for children ages 6 months to 4 years old

Urbana Families,

We are happy to share the news that COVID-19 vaccines are now available for children ages 6 months to 4 years old. This is news many of us have been waiting for.

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) will be hosting child COVID vaccination clinics for those ages 6 months to 4 years old at the iHotel and Conference Center on June 27 and 28. Both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be available. Appointments will be required and they typically fill up quickly. Please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b054ca8a82ca5f94-child1

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is now recommending everyone 6 months of age and older be vaccinated for COVID-19. According to the CDC, children will receive a smaller dose of the COVID-19 vaccine than teens and adults. Additional information on COVID-19 vaccinations can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/vaccines-children-teens.html

If you are unable to get an appointment at one of the clinics offered by C-UPHD, we encourage you to work with your pediatrician’s office, the Urbana School-Based Health Center, Promise Healthcare or other medical provider to have your child vaccinated.

We are optimistic at the news that our youngest students now have the opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19 ahead of the next school year.

As a reminder, students entering kindergarten, 6th or 9th grade also need a physical before the first day of school. If your child needs a physical, this would be a good opportunity to schedule your appointment and also ask about receiving the COVID vaccine if your child has yet to be vaccinated. We are #StrongerTogether116

Sincerely,

Urbana School District
