There are times when situations are such that the District will cancel school, call for an early dismissal, or otherwise need to keep families informed of specific events in or around our schools.
In the event that we need to close schools for any reason (either full day or early dismissal), we have a variety of ways to communicate that information to our Tiger families and staff members. If you are parent, guardian or staff member of USD116, you will receive a phone call and email alert via Skylert as soon as the decision is made. Please make sure that your phone and email information are correct in our Skyward Information System. If you are a parent or guardian and do not have Skyward Family Access set up, you can do so at your child’s school office – please bring a photo ID.
The District also uses social media to announce school closings. On Twitter, you can follow our Superintendent, @dowendo, or the District at @Urbana116. School closings will also be posted on the USD116 Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/USD116 and a variety of other District social media accounts as soon as the decision is made to close. Urbana School District #116 also contacts all major news outlets in the Champaign County area. School and business closing information is usually found on local news media websites, as well as the tv and radio stations.
