URBANA POLICE OFFICER TO BE ASSIGNED TO URBANA HIGH SCHOOL FOR REMAINDER OF SCHOOL YEAR

Starting on Monday, February 11, 2019, the Urbana Police Department and Urbana School District #116 plan to have a plain-clothes officer on the high school campus for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year. This change will be jointly funded by the two organizations. While the full time presence of the police officer will not guarantee that fights do not occur, it is the belief that a continuous presence of a police officer on the high school campus will provide a deterrent effect and allow for positive interactions with students, staff, and visitors while at the school. Both organizations are committed to providing a safe learning and working environment for all students and staff. Dr. Preston L. Williams Jr. – Urbana School District #116
