Winter weather has arrived in Illinois. While current forecasts do not predict any weather that threatens to close schools, now is a good time to remind families, students, and the community about how school closing information is communicated.
In the event that USD #116 needs to close schools for any reason, we have a variety of ways to communicate that information to our families and staff members. If you are parent or guardian of an Urbana student or staff member of USD #116, and have chosen to receive notifications from USD #116, you will receive a phone call and email alert as soon as the decision to delay or close school is made. Please make sure that your phone and email information are correct in Skyward. If you are a parent or guardian and do not have Skyward Family Access set up, you can do so at your student’s school office – please bring a photo ID.
We will also use social media to announce school closings. The school district is on Twitter @Urbana116, some school’s have their own accounts. School closings will also be posted on the USD #116 Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/USD116. You can also check the school district website for information about school closings: http://www.usd116.org/
The school district also contacts all major news outlets when school closings occur, and you can check local news media web sites for additional information.
We also want to remind students and families to dress appropriately for the weather when out and about. This includes hats and gloves to cover as much exposed skin as possible.
