As our students settle in for the 2014-2015 school year, Urbana School District #116 welcomes our newest Tigers, the Class of 2027! These kindergarten students celebrated the beginning of school by showing their Tiger Spirit and receiving a special gift with the help of our community partners.
USD #116, which is part of the National Network of Partnership Schools through John Hopkins University, reached out to local businesses last spring with an idea. That idea became reality this week as kindergarten students at our six elementary schools, King, Prairie, Thomas Paine, Leal, Wiley and Yankee Ridge, were surprised with a special gift – a brand new t-shirt! Twenty-two local business participated and provided funds to buy a t-shirt for each kindergarten student at all our buildings.

“Urbana Businesses are Proud of U! (With the logos and names of the contributing businesses).
We understand “College” (referring to the idea of a world of opportunities that are open to all students) begins at birth. We also acknowledge that it takes parents and families, early childhood providers, schools, and the entire community in partnership with each and every student to help them achieve their own personal greatness. Our teachers and staff are excited about the future of these students and are thrilled to be a part of it. A big Tiger Paw of Thanks to all of the businesses that participated this year. USD #116 looks forward to continuing and expanding our community partnerships long into the future to help our students achieve their personal greatness.
