Urbana – Urbana School District #116 is pleased to announce Dr. Jennifer Heinhorst as our new Principal of Wiley Elementary. She is anticipated to start in her position on July 1, 2018. Currently, Dr. Joseph Wiemelt is the interim Principal.
Dr. Heinhorst is currently a grant project manager of the National Institute of Justice School Safety Initiative: Project SOARS and a part-time German instructor at Urbana High School. Her previous higher education work experience includes Adjunct Instructor for UI Department of Human and Community Development, Organizational Leadership for Department of Educational Leadership at Greenville College. Dr. Heinhorst was the Director of the Office of Clinical Experiences in the UI Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Her elementary and secondary school experience includes Interim Principal of Dr. Howard Elementary in Champaign, Assistant Principal of Clifton Park Elementary in Killeen Texas, as well as Social Studies and German teacher.
“As a life long resident of Champaign-Urbana and former Wiley parent, I am excited to continue to work with Wiley families and teachers to create high levels of students success!” Dr. Heinhorst said in a statement. “Wiley is uniquely positioned to serve as a community hub; to be a place where students, families, teachers and community interact in ways to support and build positive and enduring collaborations. I am looking forward to personally getting to know all members of the Wiley Coyote Family!"
Dr. Heinhorst earned an Education Doctorate in Educational Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in August of 2013. Her Masters in Education was in Curriculum and Instruction and was awarded in June of 1995 from National Louis University. Her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education was earned in 1992 from University of Illinois.
