Lesson 1:

Introduction--Brainstorming Ideas About History

1. Hand out and explain graphic organizer. [main idea/4 details]

2. Students write the word “history” inside the main idea hexagon.

3. Students write 4 ideas they have about history, one idea per square.

4. Students share ideas with each other at their tables.

5. After some time, each table shares its ideas with whole group – write ideas on the board.

6. Discuss the ideas, focus [or introduce] thoughts about history as it relates to time, the recording of events, artifacts and personal and larger history.
