Analysis of Local Primary Sources

 

Day 2—Introduction to Vocabulary and Progressive Reforms

 

Read aloud introductions to the Child Labor (p6-7) and the introduction to Tenement House Manufacture (p14-16) reports.  Discuss what role Florence Kelly had as Illinois State Factory Inspector and why she was creating these reports.  While reading aloud, discuss vocabulary terms child labor, tenement manufacture, and sweatshop and using an overhead complete the Concept of Definition Vocabulary Map for each word.
